AUDI COMPETITION: RAÍCES Y RUEDAS

PROJECT NAME: AUDI COMPETITION: Raíces y Ruedas
LOCATION: Ciudad de México
YEAR: 2024
PROJECT TYPE: Concurso DWMX x AUDI

The shape of the pavilion is inspired by Mexican grecas — those geometric patterns so characteristic of pre-Hispanic iconography. These forms, reinterpreted in a contemporary context, represent the fusion of tradition and modernity.
Likewise, the repeated planes and their cobalt blue color pay homage to Mexican modernist architecture — a movement that has left an indelible mark on our visual identity.

“The design of the stairway, inspired by pre-Hispanic grecas and Mexican modernist architecture, symbolizes the cultural evolution of Mexico and Audi’s history, creating a floral altar that reflects this boundless heritage.”

The curve that defines the pavilion is not merely an aesthetic element; it represents the dynamism and fluidity that characterize Audi. This curve invites interaction, reflecting the synergy between automotive and architectural design. The flowers, arranged in four levels, evoke the four rings of the Audi logo. Each level symbolizes a fundamental aspect of the brand: legacy, innovation, excellence, and future. This arrangement guides visitors through a journey across Audi’s core values.

Together, the pavilion forms a dialogue between history and modernity, tradition and innovation. It is a space that invites reflection on the past, a celebration of the present, and a hopeful, creative look toward the future. Each element tells part of this story, turning the design into a bridge between two cultures, united by a deep respect for art and engineering.

The pavilion is conceived as a narrative that celebrates Audi’s history and vision, interwoven with the cultural richness of Mexico. From the very first glance, the marigold flowers that adorn it begin to tell a story: each one represents a year since Audi’s founding in 1899 by August Horch. These flowers, emblematic in Mexican culture as symbols of life and remembrance, bloom as a living tribute to the company’s evolution and enduring legacy over the years.

The pots holding these flowers are made of clay, a material deeply connected to Mexican roots and the land itself — a reminder of the tradition and craftsmanship that define us. As a chronological culmination, the pot at the highest level is made of copper, representing the present and modernity. This contrast between clay and copper symbolizes the connection between materials, technique, and technology — understood as a continuous and metaphorical process, rather than an overt display of state-of-the-art innovation.
