C.U. Car Park
This project was developed as part of the Master’s in Advanced Design at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH), aiming to reduce the urban heat island effect in the southern car park of Ciudad Universitaria, Morelia.
The design was carried out in collaboration with architect Ana María Naranjo C., and involved the complete removal of the existing asphalt surface, replacing it with stone pavers to significantly reduce surface temperature. Parking bays were reimagined using gravel, enabling rainwater infiltration and ground-level thermal dissipation.
An experimental student rest module was also proposed, using scaffolding structures to support a vertical garden and green roof. This structure aimed to provide shade and thermal comfort within the public space.
The plant selection included low-maintenance species such as native grasses, lavender, agapanthus, lilies and hardy succulents.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The project integrates sustainability, thermal efficiency, and exploratory design within an academic urban setting.
